The short answer is, it’s a four-step process. You choose a niche, build a site around that niche, attract visitors and monetize your site. Obviously there’s more to it than that and this is actually just one way, of many, you can go. Let’s break it down a bit.
What is a niche? Anything really. A hobby or passion, trial or tribulation you’ve endured or overcome, even just an idea you know you can make money with.
One of my sites is all about DJI drones. It’s a hobby of mine and I enjoy it immensely. I like to review various products, provide helpful hints and tips, talk about how drones are changing various industries, what’s new and exciting and so on. I can easily take it a step further and promote products and accessories, through my reviews and articles, and even earn commissions through affiliate sales.
In the end, the more knowledgeable and passionate about the niche you are, the easier it will be for you to build your site content around it so I do recommend that you build your first site around something you’re passionate about.
I will be more than happy to help you select a niche and flesh out the details. The Wealthy Affiliate Community is also a great resource to bounce ideas off of.
Maybe you’re already a web designer. Then again, maybe you have no experience with web design. Either way, it’s no problem.
WA will walk you through the how-to’s of building a site. In fact, you actually build your site as you go through the training course. By the time you finish the course, you’ll already have a site up and running with multiple articles.
Although you are not required to host your site(s) at WA, there are several tools included with your membership that you may want to take advantage of:
You might be here because you want to make money online. You could be here because you love to help others. Maybe you’re here for something else altogether or for a combination of reasons. Whatever your motivation is for being here, attracting visitors to your site will help you reach your goals.
Having a site is great but having people actually visit it, read what you have written and comment/engage is so much better. Not only does such activity draw others in, it also gets the attention of the search engines which, in turn, will push you up the ranks and lead to even more traffic. Wealthy Affiliate will teach you how to promote your site and attract that traffic.
OK, so now we have our niche, we’ve created our website and we’ve attracted our visitors. Let’s make some money! The training here at WA will cover various ways to monetize your site. The main focus will be affiliate marketing. It makes sense. You’ve written posts on a variety of subjects and guess what posts are? They’re your opinion on something.
Maybe you’ve reviewed that new DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone and you just love it so much. That enthusiasm probably made it into your post in some form. Why not provide a link to it for those who might be interested in grabbing one for themselves? Better yet, why not partner with whoever is selling the drone and, in exchange for your referral, earn a commission from any sales you send their way? That’s affiliate marketing in a nutshell. Now supposed you made $40 from that referral, not bad. Now assume for a minute that 10 or even 100 people followed your link and bought that drone. Doesn’t $400 or even $4000 sound better? That’s the power behind affiliate marketing.
WA will teach you how to sign up with various affiliate marketing programs and how to leverage them in your posts.
As I mentioned earlier, affiliate marketing is just one avenue in making money online. There are so many out there. You can build a site to promote your own products and services, offer your services on a variety of sites for a price and so much more. Wealthy Affiliate does focus on affiliate marketing but also offers training, how-to’s and even has members that will help you with all sorts of options when it comes to monetizing your site(s).
